Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 8, 2026
This website (votejamesbrooks.com) is operated by the campaign of James Brooks for Citrus County Mosquito Control Board, Seat 1 ("the Campaign," "we," "us"). This policy explains what information we collect through this site, how we use it, and the choices you have. We've tried to keep it plain and honest.
Information We Collect
We only collect information you choose to give us, plus the basic technical data any website receives.
- Contact form. When you fill out our contact form, we collect your name, email address, phone number (if you provide one), the ways you've indicated you'd like to help, and any message you write.
- Donations. Donations are processed entirely by PayPal. We never see or store your full card or bank details — PayPal handles that. We do receive the information PayPal shares about a completed contribution (such as your name and the amount), which the Campaign is required to record.
- Basic technical data. Our hosting provider may automatically log standard technical information (like IP address and browser type) for security and to keep the site running. We do not use this to build advertising profiles.
How We Use Your Information
- To respond to your questions and requests (for example, getting a yard sign to you).
- To coordinate volunteering, events, and other ways you've told us you'd like to be involved.
- To keep you updated about the campaign, if you've asked us to.
- To comply with Florida election and campaign-finance law.
Donations Are Public Record
This one is important, so we want to be upfront about it. Under Florida law (Chapter 106, Florida Statutes), the Campaign is required to report contributions to the appropriate elections filing officer — including each contributor's name, address, and occupation. Those reports become public record. If you donate, please understand that this information is not private and may be published as part of the public campaign-finance record.
Calls and Text Messages
If you give us a phone number, a member of the Campaign may call or text you about the campaign. You can ask to be removed at any time — just reply "STOP" to a text or let us know by phone, and we'll take you off the list.
We Don't Sell Your Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share it only with the service providers that help us run this site and process donations (see below), or where we are required to by law — including the campaign-finance reporting described above.
Third-Party Services
We rely on a few trusted services, each with its own privacy policy:
- Netlify hosts this website and processes contact-form submissions. See the Netlify Privacy Policy.
- PayPal processes all donations. See the PayPal Privacy Statement.
How Long We Keep It
We keep contribution records for as long as Florida election law requires. Other information you send us is kept only as long as we need it for the purposes above, and then disposed of.
Children's Privacy
This site is intended for adults of voting age and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your Choices
You can ask us what information we have about you, correct it, or ask us to remove it. Please note that information already filed as part of the public campaign-finance record cannot be withdrawn, as it is governed by Florida law. To make a request, contact us using the details below.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll change the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
